Court Schedules Malami Family Terrorism Trial for 2026

The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled the trial of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, for April 15-16, 2026. They face five counts of terrorism-related offenses, including illegal possession of firearms.

The decision was made on Tuesday by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik after the prosecution, represented by Akinlolu Kehind (SAN), requested additional time to prepare the case. The defense team, led by Shuaibu Arua (SAN), did not oppose the request.

The court previously granted bail to both defendants, set at N200 million, requiring two sureties for each, with specific conditions regarding property ownership and documentation. The charges against them include allegations of unlawful possession of firearms and involvement in terrorist financing.

The prosecution claims that Abdulaziz Malami unlawfully kept firearms at a residence in Kebbi State, and the case has been brought forward by the Department of State Services (DSS).
