ADC Criticizes Tinubu Over Controversial Electoral Act

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu for his rapid assent to controversial amendments to the Electoral Act, which they claim undermine Nigeria's democracy. In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the approval of the amendments as extraordinary and hasty, questioning the legitimacy of the process that led to the law's passage despite widespread public objections.

The ADC alleges that the amendments introduce ambiguities that grant excessive discretion in the transmission of electoral results, thereby weakening public confidence in the electoral process. They further assert that these changes are part of a broader plan by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The ADC warned that the absence of citizen engagement could compel physical safeguards for votes during elections, which may heighten tensions. The party expressed its readiness to politically engage and mobilize Nigerians to protect the sanctity of democracy ahead of future polls.
