ADC Criticizes Tinubu's Hasty Electoral Act Approval

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned President Bola Tinubu's rapid assent to the controversial Electoral Act amendment bill, which they argue signifies a "death warrant" for credible elections in Nigeria. The ADC's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the president's decision, made on February 18, 2023, disregards widespread public opposition and reflects a scheme to manipulate the electoral process ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ADC expressed alarm over the speed of the assent, suggesting it undermines democratic integrity and transparency. They emphasized that the amendment introduces ambiguities that could facilitate corruption and hinder the electoral process.

The ADC also highlighted the necessity for citizens to safeguard their votes and ensure electoral transparency, asserting their readiness to defend Nigeria's democracy against what they perceive as a threat from the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Kwankwasiyya Movement also voiced concerns regarding the president's actions, stressing the need for stronger electoral safeguards.
