U.S. Military Personnel Arrive in Nigeria for Training

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria confirmed the arrival of 100 U.S. military personnel at Bauchi Airfield, aimed at supporting the capacity building of the Nigerian Armed Forces. This deployment is part of a bilateral defense cooperation arrangement following a formal request from the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The DHQ explained that the deployment was agreed upon during a joint working group engagement between Nigerian and U.S. officials, focusing on addressing specific training needs and technical support requirements, particularly in intelligence sharing. The U.S. personnel, described as technical specialists, will serve strictly in an advisory capacity and will not be involved in combat operations.

The training activities will be conducted under the direct control of the Nigerian government and in close coordination with national military leadership. The collaboration aims to enhance the capabilities of Nigerian troops to deter terrorist threats and protect vulnerable communities across the country, with an immediate commencement of joint training engagements to neutralize extremist groups threatening national security.
