U.S. Troops Arrive in Nigeria to Support Military Efforts

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria confirmed the arrival of approximately 100 U.S. military personnel at Bauchi Airfield to support ongoing capacity-building efforts for the Nigerian Armed Forces. Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, described the planned outcomes prior to engaging with a Nigerian delegation during a bilateral workgroup meeting.

The presence of U.S. personnel follows a formal request from the Federal Government of Nigeria for military training, technical assistance, and intelligence sharing. The DHQ stated that this collaboration is designed to strengthen Nigeria's operational capabilities to confront terrorist threats and improve the protection of vulnerable communities nationwide.

Major General Uba emphasized that U.S. personnel in Nigeria will serve strictly in an advisory capacity and will not be deployed for combat operations. The Nigerian Armed Forces will maintain direct control in close coordination with the Nigerian government.

Joint training exercises focusing on intelligence cooperation are expected to commence soon, aimed at improving operational planning and counter-terrorism tactics.
