EFCC Chairman Apologizes After Violent Hospital Incident

On May 12, a violent incident involving operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) occurred at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH). In response, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede issued an apology to the hospital and its staff, acknowledging the discomfort caused by the actions of the operatives.

The apology was conveyed through Eyo Ekp, the Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at UUTH and a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA). Olukoyede expressed regret over the incident and confirmed that a full investigation would be conducted into the actions of the EFCC personnel, which were found to be outside the acceptable code of professional conduct.

He stated that disciplinary action would be taken once the investigation was completed. The EFCC Chairman also urged the NMA to continue supporting the commission in its fight against economic and financial crime while emphasizing the importance of preventing such incidents in the future.
