EFCC Operatives Attacked During Hospital Investigation

On Tuesday, operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed Uyo Teaching Hospital in Akwa Ibom to investigate a medical report concerning Eyo Ekp, a professor of cardiothoracic surgery and deputy chairman of the hospital's medical advisory committee. The EFCC, represented by spokesman Dele Oyewale, stated that they had previously sent two letters to the hospital management regarding the medical report but received no response.

During the operation, chaos erupted as the operatives faced a stone attack from individuals at the hospital, leading to workers and patients fleeing for safety. Video footage circulated online showing the panic within the hospital premises.

The EFCC was investigating allegations of fraud involving multiple microfinance banks, including the University of Uyo Microfinance Bank. The operatives were reportedly armed with tear gas canisters during the operation.
