JUST-IN: Federal Gov’t Asks Ibom Air To Withdraw Criminal Charges Against Comfort Emmanson

The Federal Government has urged Ibom Air to withdraw criminal charges against Comfort Emmanson, a passenger involved in a heated incident on August 10, 2025. Minister of Aviation Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, stated that the decision was made in consultation with critical stakeholders in the aviation sector, based on compassionate grounds and the passenger's expression of remorse.

The incident, which went viral on social media, involved a physical confrontation between Emmanson and a member of the cabin crew, leading to her arrest. Keyamo emphasized that both the passenger and airline staff bear responsibility for the breakdown of decorum.

The government's decision to show leniency does not endorse misconduct but aims to address the injustice done while upholding the law. Additionally, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) agreed to lift the lifetime flying ban imposed on Emmanson.
