FG Scraps 5% Telecom Tax to Lower Call and Data Costs, NCC Confirms

The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken action to abolish the 5% excise duty on telecommunication services, affecting voice calls and internet data costs. The National Orientation Agency (NOA) disclosed this decision, stating that President Bola Tinubu directed the removal of the tax.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, confirmed the development, emphasizing the government's commitment to making communication more affordable. The move is seen as a response to concerns raised by Nigerians about the cost of telecom services.

This decision aligns with the recently signed Finance Act and aims to enhance accessibility to communication services in the country.
