Gunmen Kill Two Police Officers in Anambra Attack

On Sunday night, gunmen ambushed a police patrol in Anambra State, killing at least two police officers. The attack took place along the Awa Ndiukwuenu Ufuma road, an area that had previously experienced relative calm following a crackdown on criminal elements, particularly armed groups linked to separatist agitation.

Witnesses, including commercial tricycle riders known as "keke" operators, reported hearing gunfire and abandoned their vehicles to seek cover in the bush. Some returned later to retrieve their tricycles and reported seeing the bodies of the two policemen lying on the road next to a police van parked roadside.

Efforts to contact Tochukwu Ikenga, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, were unsuccessful as he was unreachable at the time of the report. No official statement regarding the incident has been released by the police.
