Gunmen Kill Two Police Officers, Target Governor's Aide

On Sunday night, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Anambra State, narrowly escaped death during an attack by gunmen along the Amansea-Ufuma road. The incident resulted in the deaths of two police officers who were part of his convoy.

Following the attack, the Anambra State Police Command initiated an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators, with Commissioner of Police Ikioy Orutugu directing the Tactical Unit to track down the assailants. A 48-hour deadline was issued for their arrest.

Orutugu condemned the attack as a serious challenge to state security and emphasized the need for immediate action to apprehend those responsible. He also raised concerns about new tactics allegedly adopted by criminal groups, including disguising themselves in military police uniforms.

The police command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, particularly along the Amansea-Ufuma road, which has seen increased criminal activity.
