Minister Adebayo Adelabu Apologizes for Power Outages

Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, issued a public apology to Nigerians during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday regarding the persistent power outages that have deepened hardships across homes, businesses, schools, and industries, particularly during the current dry season. He acknowledged the frustrations caused by erratic power supply amid soaring temperatures and increased electricity demand.

Adelabu explained that the current situation is influenced by factors beyond the government's control but assured that relief is imminent, with a commitment to improve supply timelines. He mentioned that a special committee is monitoring compliance with domestic gas supply obligations and that repairs to gas pipelines are expected to begin within two weeks, leading to improved supply.

The Minister reiterated the federal government's commitment to ramping up electricity generation to 6,000 megawatts by the end of 2026, emphasizing that the current disruptions are temporary and part of a broader improvement plan for the power sector.
