Kwara Court Sentences Two Bandits to Death by Hanging

On Thursday, a Kwara court sentenced two bandits, Abubakar Sodiki and Abubakar Moham, to death by hanging for armed robbery. They faced six charges, including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms.

The court found sufficient evidence linking the defendants to the crimes, as presented by Justice Ahm Aliyu Gegel. The kidnapping incident involved the victim, Alhaji Sahe Arowasi, from Baruten Local Government Area, who was initially demanded a ransom of N100 million, later reduced to N10 million for his release.

During the trial, the defendants were allowed to plead for leniency, with Sodiki requesting mercy while Moham maintained his innocence. The prosecution, represented by Muslimah Suleiman, argued that the charges were fully established, while the defense led by Shu Aib Ibrahim sought to appeal the sentence.

The court's ruling included a life imprisonment sentence for kidnapping and a ten-year sentence for illegal possession of firearms.
