Rivers LG: ‘This Man (Fubara) Has Thrown All Of Us Under The Bus’

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) recently announced a new date for the local government election, set for August 30, 2025, following the annulment of the October 5, 2024 poll. The election was initially suspended by the Governor, who declared a state of emergency on March 18.

The former RSIEC Chairman, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, had previously scheduled the election for August 9, but the new chairman, Michael Odey, shifted the date in accordance with Section 13(5) of the RSIEC Law. Odey's decision has sparked protests and condemnation, with stakeholders accusing him of favoring specific interests.

Meanwhile, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara has remained silent, leading to speculation about his allegiances. Sources claim that Fubara may be considering defecting to the ruling APC party, as he allegedly offered three PDP slots to nominate candidates, which were rejected.
