MUSLIM RIGHTS GROUP DEMANDS RELEASE OF SOWORE

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), led by Executive Director Professor Ishaq Akintola, has demanded the release of activist Omoyele Sowore, who is currently detained on allegations of cybercrime. The group expressed its worries regarding the implications of Sowore's continued detention for Nigeria's democratic image and the respect for freedom of speech.

In a statement issued on Thursday, they emphasized the need for adherence to the rule of law and judicial processes. Sowore, a former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has faced significant public reaction due to his outspoken criticism of the government, particularly regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The organization cautioned Sowore and other activists to avoid reckless public statements that could inflame tensions and undermine civil discourse. They highlighted the importance of maintaining decorum in political discussions, especially in a culturally sensitive environment like Nigeria.
