Coalition Demands Arrest of Sowore for Security Threats

On Thursday, the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance in Nigeria urged security agencies to arrest activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, citing actions that allegedly undermine Nigeria’s national security. Johnson Micheal, the coalition's Director of Programmes, praised President Bola Tinubu and the Chief of Army Staff for enhancing military capacity and personnel welfare, emphasizing these efforts as vital for national security.

The coalition acknowledged the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in protecting Nigeria’s democracy. Micheal called for Sowore to face a competent court regarding the allegations against him, asserting that no individual should be above the law.

The coalition also cautioned against using court premises for political mobilization, warning that protests could disrupt legal proceedings. They stated that if Sowore and his supporters organized protests near court premises, they would conduct peaceful counter-demonstrations to defend Nigeria’s peace and democratic institutions.

The coalition concluded by urging Nigerians to unite in combating insecurity and terrorism.
