PDP Crisis Deepens as Senator Lere Oyewumi Defects

Senator Lere Oyewumi, who represents the Osun West Senatorial District and serves as the Senate Minority Leader, has officially defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party. This move comes amid significant leadership crises within the PDP, which have been exacerbated by a series of legal disputes following the party's national convention held in Ibadan earlier in 2025.

Oyewumi registered with the Accord Party at his hometown, specifically in Ward 9 of the Irewol Local Government Area of Osun State. His defection has attracted support from numerous members of the Accord Party.

This shift is part of a larger trend, as two senators and three members of the House of Representatives from Osun State have also defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025, following Governor Ademola Adeleke's own defection to the Accord Party.
