Rivers Assembly Probes Emergency Funds, Seeks Financial Review

The Rivers State Assembly reconvened after the expiration of the state of emergency imposed by President Bola Tinubu, marking the first sitting since March 18, 2025. Lawmakers unanimously agreed to probe the financial activities carried out under the emergency rule, demanding a comprehensive review.

The motion, sponsored by nine lawmakers, emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in financial matters post-emergency period. The Assembly acknowledged the successful conduct of local government elections during the emergency administration but stressed the importance of collaborating with Governor Siminialayi Fubara to establish a new financial framework aligned with the aspirations of Rivers residents.
