Fuel Tanker Explosion on Abeokuta–Sagamu Road Leaves Several Feared Dead

Several individuals are feared dead after a fuel tanker exploded on the Abeokuta–Sagamu road in Nigeria. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. when the petrol tanker overturned due to excessive speeding, spilling its contents on the highway.

The resulting fire spread to an electric pole, causing further destruction. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the tragic event.

Rescue efforts involving various agencies, including TRACE, Nestlé PLC, Fire Service, FRSC, and the police, are ongoing. The public, especially motorists, has been urged to cooperate and remain patient as traffic has been diverted to a single lane pending the conclusion of rescue operations.
