Supreme Court Schedules PDP Faction Appeal for 2026

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has set April 22, 2026, to hear the appeal brought by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This decision follows a ruling from the Court of Appeal on March 9, which upheld two earlier decisions by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

These rulings, delivered by Justice James Omotosho, effectively blocked the PDP from proceeding with its planned national convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, unless the party demonstrates full compliance with the Electoral Act 2022. The Supreme Court's five-member panel, presided over by Justice Moham Garba, aims to address ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP.

The court granted a motion to accelerate the hearing of two appeals, allowing the parties involved just five days to submit legal arguments, highlighting the urgency of resolving this internal conflict. Prominent figures in attendance included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former governors Babangida Aliyu and Sule Lamido.
