TCN Announces Total Blackout in Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo States

On June 23, 2026, at 3:59 AM, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported a total electricity blackout affecting Rivers, Bayelsa, and Imo states. The outage was caused by an earth fault and a distance protection failure along the Alaoji 132kV transmission line.

TCN's spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, explained that the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) was unable to receive bulk electricity for distribution to its customers in Owerri, Yenagoa, and Ahoada due to this outage. TCN's maintenance crew was deployed to address the issue and restore normal power supply as quickly as possible.

TCN apologized for the inconvenience caused by the outage and its impact on electricity customers in the affected states.
