TCN Announces Two-Day Blackout in Six Northern States

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned two-day blackout for residents in six northern states: Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba. This temporary power outage is scheduled for the weekend to facilitate maintenance work, specifically the installation of an optic ground wire (OPGW) on the 330kV single circuit transmission line from Bauchi.

Major cities affected include Bauchi, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Yola, and Jalingo. Ndidi Mbah, TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, stated that the maintenance work will impact the bulk electricity supply to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) and the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC).

Consequently, these distribution companies will be unable to supply electricity to their customers during the maintenance period. TCN assured residents that the power supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the installation work, emphasizing that this outage is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation's transmission infrastructure and improve the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply across the country.
