Two-Day Blackout Affects Six Northern Nigerian States

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that six states in northern Nigeria—Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba—will experience a two-day blackout on Saturday and Sunday due to scheduled maintenance. This maintenance is necessary to enable the installation of an optic ground wire (OPGW) on the 330kV single circuit transmission line from Bauchi to Gombe and to upgrade the 330/132/33kV transmission substation.

TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated that the maintenance work is part of ongoing projects aimed at modernizing the country's transmission infrastructure to strengthen the system and improve the overall reliability and efficiency of electricity transmission across Nigeria. The blackout will affect major cities including Bauchi, Gombe, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Yola, and Jalingo.

TCN has assured residents that the blackout is temporary and that efforts will be made to complete the installation within the scheduled period to minimize disruption.
