Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu as Acting IGP, Accepts Resignation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector General of Police, effective immediately, following the acceptance of Kayode Egbetokun's resignation. Egbetokun submitted his resignation letter on Tuesday, and the President expressed gratitude for Egbetokun's decade of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force.

Egbetokun was appointed in June 2023 for a four-year term scheduled to conclude in June 2027, in line with the amended provisions of the Police Act. The President acknowledged Egbetokun's dedication and commitment to strengthening internal security during his tenure.

In a statement issued by special adviser Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended Egbetokun's contributions and expressed confidence in Disu's experience and leadership capabilities to provide steady focus for the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period. The President also indicated that Disu's appointment would be formally considered by the Nigeria Police Council and subsequently transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.
