Tinubu Appoints Major General Fadewa as Homeland Security Adviser

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has established a new role titled Homeland Security Adviser, appointing retired Major General Adeinka Fadewa to this position. This landmark appointment was confirmed in a circular issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

The creation of this role signifies a strategic shift in how the administration intends to handle internal threats, emphasizing the need for enhanced coordination among security agencies and improved intelligence-driven operations. This is the first time a dedicated office for homeland security has been established at the federal level in Nigeria, traditionally dominated by the National Security Adviser (NSA).

Major General Fadewa brings over thirty years of military experience, including a notable tenure as the Principal General Staff Officer in the Office of the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021, where he was instrumental in the creation of the Intelligence Fusion Center. President Tinubu expressed high expectations for Fadewa to improve coordination in homeland security initiatives.
