Tinubu Appoints Major General Famadewa as Security Adviser

President Bola Tinubu appointed Major General Adeyinka Famadewa (Rtd) as the Special Adviser on Homeland Security, a decision announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF). The appointment aims to deepen coordination of homeland security initiatives and enhance intelligence-driven operations to address emerging security threats in Nigeria.

Famadewa, with over 30 years of military experience, previously served as the Principal General Staff Officer at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from 2015 to 2021, where he played a key role in establishing the Intelligence Fusion Centre. His appointment has raised expectations for a multidimensional approach to tackling insecurity in Nigeria, moving beyond military solutions.

Critics have noted the need for structural adjustments in the security system, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration and a clear national security strategy.
