BEPU Demands Probe into Deadly Miners' Clash in Kaduna

The Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) has requested a thorough investigation into a violent clash involving suspected illegal miners in Randagi community, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State. Reports indicate that several individuals were feared killed, although the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed.

In a statement signed by BEPU Chairman Dr Isah Muhammad, the union expressed condolences to the victims' families and called for a prompt and transparent investigation to hold those responsible accountable. BEPU also urged the Federal Government, Kaduna state government, and mining regulatory agencies to enhance oversight of mining activities in the region, emphasizing the need for compliance with legal and environmental standards.

The union highlighted ongoing complaints from residents regarding the destruction of farmlands and public infrastructure due to mining activities, as well as the use of hazardous chemicals. BEPU called for mining operations to benefit local communities through improved infrastructure, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
