Kaduna Governor Uba Sani Approves ASUU Salary Agreement

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) salary agreement for academic staff at Kaduna State University (KASU), effective from October 2026. This decision comes as the KASU branch of ASUU commenced an indefinite strike on Wednesday due to unresolved demands.

The Commissioner of Education, Prof Abubakar Sani Sambo, announced this at a press briefing on Friday, stating that the approval followed recommendations from a nine-member Government-KASU/ASUU Negotiation Committee led by Dr AbdulKadir Muazu Meyere. The approved package includes the revised Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure and other allowances.

Additionally, a one-off payment of N300 million was approved to address part of a backlog of over N800 million in accumulated entitlements dating back to 2016. Sambo urged the striking lecturers and other university unions to engage in dialogue, emphasizing the government's commitment to education and human-capital development.
