Sokoto Schools Set to Resume on September 14, 2026

The Sokoto State Government announced September 14, 2026, as the resumption date for public and private schools for the 2026/2027 academic session. Boarding schools are scheduled to resume on September 13, 2026.

However, schools that were closed due to insecurity will remain shut until the government determines it is safe for them to reopen. Ibrahim Iya, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, stated that the Ministry will communicate any decisions regarding the reopening of these schools when appropriate.

Parents, guardians, School-Based Management Committees, and Parents-Teachers Associations are urged to ensure the orderly return of students. Teachers are directed to commence academic activities immediately after resumption.

Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, instructed heads of parastatals and agencies under the ministry to monitor the resumption process and ensure a smooth start to the new academic session. He also expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their contributions during the previous academic session.
