Kaduna Government, ADC Candidate Clash Over Education Funding

The Kaduna State Government and the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rt. Hon. Isah Mohammed Ashiru, engaged in a dispute regarding the funding of education and the conditions at Kaduna State University (KASU).

Ashiru criticized Governor Uba Sani's administration for inadequate attention to the education sector and failure to implement agreements with university lecturers, citing the resignation of approximately 200 professors and academic staff from KASU. In response, Kaduna State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, refuted these claims, asserting that the government is committed to enhancing education, as evidenced by budget allocations of 25% in 2024, 26.14% in 2025, and 25% of the N985.9 billion budget for 2026, totaling about N246.5 billion.

Maiyaki also noted a significant reduction in out-of-school children and highlighted investments in vocational education. He stated that over N800 million had been allocated for staff welfare at KASU, countering Ashiru's allegations.
