NDC Kaduna Faces Crisis Over Governorship Ticket Claims

The governorship ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kaduna State is in turmoil as state chairman Evangelist Mordecai Ibrahim announced that no candidate has been officially recognized for the 2027 election. This declaration was made during a press conference on Wednesday, amidst competing claims from former Senator Danjuma Tellah La’ah and lawyer Mohammed Sani Abbas.

Ibrahim clarified that he had previously been the recognized candidate but withdrew from the race, formally notifying the NDC National Chairman and the Kaduna State Resident Electoral Commissioner on August 7, in accordance with Section 31 of the Electoral Act 2026. He presented an INEC summary listing him as the candidate, which has led to disputes over the ticket.

Ibrahim emphasized that a substitution primary election must be organized to determine a valid candidate, rejecting Abbas's claims of winning a primary election as false. Additionally, two other aspirants, Zariyi Madaki and Ibrahim Abdulkarim, withdrew in favor of La’ah during a consensus meeting.
