Kaduna Government Aims to Re-enroll 100,000 Children

The Kaduna state government, in collaboration with development partners, is intensifying efforts to return 100,000 out-of-school children to classrooms through the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) project. Mr.

Duncan Harvey, Country Director of Save the Children International in Nigeria, announced this during a media briefing in Kaduna. The project is implemented in partnership with several organizations, including the Education Above All Foundation, Kuwait Fund, Qatar Fund for Development, Islamic Development Bank, and Global Partnership for Education.

The initiative focuses on school construction, teacher development, community mobilization, child protection, and inclusive education. The recent mapping exercise identified 187,719 out-of-school children across 363,319 households in 23 local government areas, with poverty and insecurity cited as major factors.

The ROOSC project coordinator, Mr. Ezra Angai, emphasized that the initiative supports not just enrollment but also infrastructure and community engagement to prevent dropouts.

The findings from the mapping will guide targeted interventions by the government and partners.
