Kaduna State Launches Flood Awareness Campaign for 2026

The Kaduna State Government has issued a warning regarding potential flooding and has initiated an awareness campaign in preparation for the 2026 rainy season. According to a report from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Kaduna is identified as a high-risk area for flooding due to forecasts of above-normal rainfall expected between May 19 and June 10, 2026.

Malam Ahm Maiyaki, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, stated that proactive measures are being taken to safeguard lives and property. The campaign aims to educate residents on flood prevention and safety measures, urging them to clear drainage around their homes and businesses and to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

KADSEMA has begun a statewide sensitization campaign and is conducting vulnerability assessments in flood-prone communities to strengthen emergency response coordination. The government emphasizes the importance of public cooperation in mitigating the impact of flooding.
