Kaduna State Launches Flood Awareness Campaign for 2026

The Kaduna State Government, led by Malam Ahm Maiyaki, has issued a warning against potential flooding due to forecasts of above-normal rainfall during the rainy season from May 19 to June 10, 2026. A statement from the government emphasized the need for proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.

The forecast indicates a possibility of severe dry spells from June to August, which could exacerbate flooding conditions. In response, the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) has initiated a statewide awareness campaign to educate residents on flood prevention and safety measures.

The government has urged citizens to clear drainage around their homes and businesses, avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and utilize sandbags for local flood control. Additionally, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and civil society groups are encouraged to support these efforts.

The government aims to strengthen emergency response coordination and ensure timely dissemination of information throughout the rainy season.
