Kaduna State to Restore 22,435 Hectares of Degraded Land

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani revealed that the state has identified 22,435 hectares of degraded land for restoration under the ACReSAL project. This initiative utilizes advanced geospatial mapping technology to enhance agro-climatic resilience in semi-arid landscapes.

Governor Sani emphasized that this project marks a significant step in Kaduna's climate resilience efforts and aims to reverse environmental degradation while promoting sustainable land use. Abubakar Buba, representing the Commission on Environment and Natural Resources, spoke during a mid-term review meeting held in Kaduna, where he highlighted the importance of the project.

Governor Sani also mentioned the de-silting of a 160-kilometer drainage channel to address urban flooding and improve environmental conditions in the Kei area. He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of the ACReSAL project.

Balarab Abba Lawal, the Chairman of the Federal Steering Committee, described the mid-term review as crucial for assessing progress and fast-tracking delivery. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources, linked land degradation to water scarcity.
