Kaduna State University Lecturers Launch Two-Week Strike

Lecturers of Kaduna State University, under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-KASU), began a two-week warning strike on Thursday due to unresolved demands related to salaries, earned allowances, university autonomy, and promotion arrears. This decision was made after an emergency meeting attended by hundreds of academic staff.

The union expressed that the Kaduna State Government's approval of N300 million for Earned Academic Allowance did not meet all their outstanding demands, which include the implementation of a 25-35 percent salary agreement. The strike follows the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued to the government on August 12, 2026.

ASUU-KASU leadership is currently in discussions with a negotiation committee formed by the state government to address these issues. The government had previously established a nine-member committee to negotiate with ASUU-KASU and other university unions regarding their demands.

Dr Abdulkadir Meyere, Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, stated that the N300 million payment was part of efforts to improve staff welfare and maintain industrial harmony.
