Kaduna University Unions Demand Implementation of 2026 Agreement

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, and National Association of Academic Technologists at Kaduna State University has called for the immediate implementation of the 2026 Federal Government agreement with non-teaching staff. The unions demand the Kaduna State Government pay outstanding earned allowances, promotion arrears, pension arrears, and salary increments of 25% and 35% applicable to university workers.

This demand was articulated in a communiqué issued after a meeting at the Kaduna State University union secretariat. The JAC emphasized that honoring agreements is crucial for maintaining industrial peace and preventing disputes.

The communiqué was signed by key union leaders, including Sa’adiyya Mustapha and Nicholas Yakubu. The unions also urged the state government to increase financial support for the university to enhance teaching and research.

The backdrop of these demands includes growing industrial tension and an ongoing dispute involving another union at the university, raising concerns about potential disruptions to academic activities.
