Kalu Commends Tinubu for Signing Kampala Convention Act

Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the Kampala Convention Domestic Act into law, describing it as a significant step towards restoring the dignity of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and strengthening their welfare across Nigeria. Kalu, who sponsored the bill alongside six lawmakers, noted that the President's assent reflects a leadership style committed to human rights.

He emphasized that the signing of the bill benefits the people without expecting anything in return, showcasing a human-centered approach to governance. Kalu also acknowledged the role of the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, in the domestic process of the act.

He urged state governments to implement the convention effectively, ensuring compliance with the law. Meanwhile, a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), led by Dori El Doueihi, visited Kalu, who commended their efforts and noted Nigeria's position as an example for other African countries.
