Nigeria's Kalu Promotes Climate Investment in London

On Tuesday, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of Nigeria's House of Representatives, delivered a keynote address at the Climate Investment Summit during London Climate Action Week.

He outlined Nigeria's green transition, emphasizing immediate investment opportunities across various sectors, including renewable energy, agriculture, transport, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Kalu assured investors that Nigeria is ready to convert its climate policies into bankable projects.

He identified key sectors for investment, such as distributed renewable energy, solar mini-grids, battery storage, clean cooking solutions, and climate-smart agriculture. Kalu also linked these investment opportunities to broader economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, which includes the removal of fuel subsidies to redirect resources towards infrastructure development.

He emphasized the importance of creating decent jobs, supporting communities, and ensuring no region is left behind in the green economy. Kalu's message highlighted the need for climate finance to support emission reduction and human resilience in the face of Nigeria's climate challenges.
