Onuigbo Takes Global Leadership Role in Climate Action

Sam Onuigbo, the former lawmaker who sponsored Nigeria's Climate Change Act of 2021, will assume leadership of the Global Legislators Organization during the London Climate Action Week event scheduled from June 23-26, 2023. This event will coincide with the Nigeria Climate Investment Summit, taking place at Mansion House in London on June 24.

Onuigbo is expected to deliver an address outlining the objectives of the summit, which marks the 35th anniversary of the Global Legislators Organization, founded in 1991. Notable figures such as former U.S.

Vice President Al Gore and former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will be present.

Onuigbo, who currently serves as the Global Vice President for Africa, will succeed Argentine parliamentarian Juan Carlo Villalonga as president of the organization. His leadership is seen as a recognition of Nigeria's growing profile in climate governance and sustainable energy transition.

The event aims to strengthen international climate cooperation and promote investment in innovative net-zero economies.
