Kalu May Abandon Abia Governorship for Re-election Bid

Orji Uzor Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, is reportedly considering shelving his ambition to contest for the Abia governorship and may instead seek re-election to the National Assembly. Sources indicate that Kalu is preparing to contest for a term representing the Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

This development follows the screening by the All Progressives Congress (APC) committee in Abuja. Kalu had previously expressed interest in the Abia governorship election and had submitted a nomination form earlier in the month.

His spokesman, Jame Uko, described Kalu as a bridge builder whose performance in the National Assembly has demonstrated his capabilities as a leader. Kalu is consulting widely to make a final decision, with sources suggesting that he faces significant challenges from the current governor, Alex Otti, in the latter's re-election bid.
