Tinubu's Assent Restores Rights of IDPs in Nigeria

On Wednesday, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, announced that the rights and dignity of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria have been restored following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's assent to the Kampala Convention domestication bill. Kalu, who led six colleagues in sponsoring the bill, described the signing as a major milestone in enhancing the welfare of IDPs.

He expressed gratitude to the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, for his role in the domestication process. Kalu made these remarks during a courtesy visit from a delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Nigeria, led by Dori El Doueihi.

He emphasized the importance of the bill for less privileged individuals and highlighted the potential benefits of the Electoral Act when signed. Kalu congratulated President Tinubu for taking a selfless step forward for Nigeria and Africa.
