Kano APC Denies Plot to Remove NDC Candidate Gwarzo From 2027 Race

The Kano APC has rejected allegations by Senator Kwankwaso that it orchestrated legal moves against NDC gubernatorial candidate Aminu Gwarzo ahead of 2027 elections.
The All Progressives Congress in Kano State has firmly rejected claims by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso that the party and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf are working to disqualify Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Nigeria Democratic Congress gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election. The APC state leadership called the accusations false and baseless, demanding that Kwankwaso produce proof connecting the ruling party to any legal action against Gwarzo.
Party officials framed the allegations as an attempt at political blackmail designed to damage the APC's reputation. Gwarzo has made separate claims that Governor Yusuf orchestrated the removal of his name and those of other NDC candidates from the final electoral list published by the Independent National Electoral Commission in preparation for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
During a media appearance, Gwarzo stated that the governor is concerned about growing NDC support in Kano and has taken steps to undermine the party's electoral prospects through what he described as deliberate administrative exclusion. The APC's response, issued through state chairman Umar Doguwa, explicitly denied involvement in any candidacy-related legal proceedings.
The party asserted that neither its leadership nor Governor Yusuf had any role in matters affecting Gwarzo's candidacy status. The statement positioned the APC's denial as a response to what it characterized as unfounded political claims rather than substantive allegations requiring detailed rebuttal.
The dispute reflects broader tensions between the ruling APC and the opposition NDC in Kano State as both parties prepare for the 2027 election cycle. Kwankwaso, who previously served as Kano governor before joining the NDC, currently holds the position of vice presidential candidate for the NDC in national politics.
The back-and-forth accusations between the parties underscore the competitive political landscape in one of Nigeria's most populous states ahead of the next electoral contest.
