Kano APC Groups Compete for Deputy Governor Position

The political landscape in Kano is heating up as various groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) vie for the vacant deputy governor position. This vacancy arose after Abdussalam Gwarzo, the former deputy governor, resigned from his position and defected from the APC.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is expected to select a candidate from three prospects presented by the party's leadership. Dr.

Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, supported by the APC legacy bloc, is emerging as a preferred candidate due to his administrative experience and credible track record. Magaji Umar Gwammaja, a prominent member of the bloc, endorsed Bichi after consultations with stakeholders.

The political dynamics are further complicated by the recent shift of former governor Abdullahi Ganduje's loyalists, including Murtala Sule Garo, who previously ran as a deputy gubernatorial candidate. The APC's internal competition is intensifying as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
