Kano Assembly to Screen Murtala Garo for Deputy Governor

The Kano State House of Assembly is scheduled to screen Murtala Garo for the position of deputy governor on Monday. This follows the nomination by Governor Abba Yusuf, which was disclosed via a Facebook post by Kamaludden Shawai, the spokesperson for the Speaker of the Assembly, Jibril Falgor.

The Assembly received official correspondence from the governor regarding Garo's nomination, which is in accordance with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The deputy governorship position became vacant after the voluntary resignation of former deputy governor Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.

Mustapha Muhammad, the governor's chief press secretary, described Garo as a seasoned politician with over two decades of experience in various elected and appointed offices. Garo, 48, has served as the state organizing secretary of the party and as a special adviser to the Kano State governor, among other roles.

The nomination aims to strengthen governance and service delivery in the state.
