Presidency Pressures Kano Governor to Appoint Garo

Habib Dawanan, a public affairs analyst and chieftain of the Progress Congress, has disclosed that the presidency, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is allegedly pressuring Kano Governor Abba Yusuf to appoint Murtala Garo as the Deputy Governor. Dawanan described this alleged move as a direct assault on the rule of law, warning that it could elevate Garo to a position that grants him constitutional immunity, thereby stalling ongoing criminal trials against him.

He criticized the nomination as a glaring double standard, especially following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam. Dawanan characterized the pressure as a calculated attempt to secure backdoor immunity for Garo and cautioned that such a move would undermine the integrity of the governor's office and the legislature.

He urged Tinubu to allow Governor Yusuf to independently choose his deputy without interference, emphasizing that the sanctity of governance institutions must remain paramount. This situation follows Yusuf's departure from the New Nigerian Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress after Abdulsalam's resignation.
