Kano Assembly Forms Committee to Screen Garo's Nomination

The Kano Assembly has set up a committee to screen the nomination of Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State, following the resignation of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026. Governor Abba Kabir forwarded Garo's name in a letter addressed to the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgor, which was read on the floor of the House during a plenary session on Wednesday.

The nomination is made pursuant to Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and follows extensive consultations across the state. Garo is recognized for his vast experience in governance, having previously served as a Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs and as the Chairman of the Kabo Local Government Area, as well as the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Kano Chapter.

Yusuf, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed confidence in Garo's experience and loyalty, emphasizing the importance of understanding Kano's political landscape to enhance service delivery. The Assembly is urged to expedite action on the nomination to ensure a smooth running of the government.
