Kano Assembly Withdraws Impeachment Against Ex-Deputy Gov

The Kano State House of Assembly has officially withdrawn the impeachment notice against former Deputy Governor Abdulsalam. This action was taken during a plenary session on Tuesday, following Abdulsalam's voluntary resignation from office.

The motion to withdraw the impeachment notice was moved by the Majority Leader, Hussaini, and presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma. The Speaker ruled that continuing the impeachment process was unnecessary since Abdulsalam had resigned, stating it served no purpose.

The impeachment proceedings had been initiated on March 5, 2026, based on allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust during Abdulsalam's tenure, particularly concerning irregularities in the Local Government Affairs Commission for 2023-2024. The withdrawal of the notice, issued under sections 188 of the 1999 Constitution, effectively closes the chapter on the controversy surrounding Abdulsalam's exit from office.
