Kano Police Enforce Movement Ban for By-Election Security

The Kano State Police Command has announced movement restrictions in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area for the State Assembly by-election scheduled for September 19, 2026. The restrictions will begin at midnight on Saturday and last until 5:00 pm.

This decision was made in consultation with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and follows a directive from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu. Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori stated that only individuals performing essential duties with valid identification would be permitted to move during this period.

Exemptions include INEC officials, accredited election observers, medical workers, firefighters, and journalists. Bakori also imposed a total ban on security aides accompanying VIPs and political office holders to polling units.

He warned against carrying arms and prohibited vote-buying and political canvassing near polling units. The police have deployed personnel and equipment to ensure a peaceful election and urged compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022.
