Cleric Urges Peace Amidst Kano's Sallah Durbar Dispute

Sheikh Yahya Maimota, an Islamic cleric, has called on Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 16th Emir of Kano, and Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II to exercise restraint and avoid holding parallel Sallah durbars during the upcoming festival. During his Ramadan tafseer delivered at Sabo Dankoli Juma Mosque in Sharada, Kano, on Tuesday, Sheikh Maimota expressed concerns about the potential threat to peace posed by the two leaders' insistence on conducting separate durbars.

He reminded them of the teachings of Prophet Muhammad regarding peace and urged leaders to prioritize public safety. Sheikh Maimota highlighted that the current situation could jeopardize the fragile peace in Kano, which is essential for the region's stability and prosperity.

He cautioned that the ongoing court case regarding the throne could lead to public safety risks and recommended suspending the durbars until a judgment is reached. Maimota also appealed to the Kano state government and security agencies to act proactively to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
